The 17-plus-hour runtime rewards patient listeners; Verner's measured delivery gives Laplante's intricate world room to breathe, while keeping the political maneuvering and action scenes distinct and grounded. Long-running cultivation fantasy translates particularly well to audio, and this installment is a strong example of why.
