Daniel Faust returns in the second installment of Craig Schaefer's urban fantasy series, navigating the neon-lit underworld of Las Vegas where magic and crime intersect in equal measure. Adam Verner's narration is a natural fit for Schaefer's hard-boiled, fast-moving prose. He brings a grounded, world-weary quality to Faust that keeps the urban fantasy grounded even as the stakes escalate toward the mythological. Verner handles the tonal shifts between noir tension and supernatural chaos with ease, making the 9-plus hour runtime feel brisk. The story's layered plot threads, multiple POVs, and sharp dialogue all translate exceptionally well to audio.
