Kit isn't a wish-fulfillment heroine — she's bruised, complicated, and occasionally makes terrible choices, which makes her feel genuinely real. Narrator Maxine Mitchell matches that intensity perfectly in audio, giving Kit a voice that's tough without being cold. Readers who want their urban fantasy gritty, fast, and emotionally unsparing will find Daniels hard to put down.
