Deep into the Dark

A veteran returns from Afghanistan to an LA that no longer feels like home. Sam Easton is bartending, attending therapy, and piecing together a fractured life when a violent incident pulls him into the center of a murder investigation. Detective Margaret Nolan catches the case, and though Sam fits the profile of a suspect, something in his story doesn't add up. As Nolan digs deeper, two separate investigations begin to converge in ways neither she nor Sam anticipated.

Abby Craden brings quiet intensity to the narration, handling both Sam's haunted interior and Nolan's measured procedural voice with distinction. Her pacing reflects the novel's slow-burn tension, letting atmospheric dread build naturally rather than forcing urgency. For a story centered on trauma, grief, and the cost of service, audio is a fitting format. Craden's grounded delivery earns the listener's trust and keeps P.J. Tracy's character-driven mystery absorbing from the first chapter.
