Michael Arkin captures the full comic register of Ollie's particular brand of blinkered determination, finding the character's genuine appeal beneath his considerable flaws. His narration of McBain's sharp, streetwise dialogue has the rhythm of someone who understands the genre's roots in pulp fiction, and at just over eight hours the production moves with the series' characteristic efficiency. Longtime fans will find this one of McBain's most entertaining entries.
