About This Audiobook

Murderbot did not kill the dead human found in the station mall — and it resents having to explain this to the Preservation Station security team, let alone cooperate with their investigation into who the victim was, how they died, and why. The fact that Murderbot now has to voluntarily engage with humans, answer questions, and participate in the kind of procedural collaboration it finds exhausting is presented with the character's characteristic combination of deep reluctance and surprising competence. Martha Wells's sixth Murderbot novella won both the Locus Award and the Goodreads Choice Award for Science Fiction.

Kevin R. Free's narration has defined Murderbot's sardonic internal voice since the series began, his delivery capturing the character's signature mixture of extreme introversion and genuine ethical investment in the people around it. At just over four hours, the production is lean and fleet — novella length, novella pacing, maximum Murderbot personality. An ideal listen for the already devoted and an excellent introduction for newcomers.
