Dick Hill's narration of the Deaf Man material has a different energy than his regular 87th Precinct work — there's a dry pleasure in his voice when the criminal is running circles around the detectives, as though Hill himself appreciates the elegance of the scheme. At just over six and a half hours, Let's Hear It for the Deaf Man is one of the series' most purely entertaining entries, the procedural transformed temporarily into a battle of wits.
