The Lost Plot

Librarian-spy Irene and her dragon assistant Kai are dispatched to 1920s-era New York during Prohibition to locate a rare book, only to find themselves trapped in a political contest between rival dragon factions. A young Librarian has become entangled in the conflict, and extracting him without triggering open war between dragons and the forces of chaos requires Irene to navigate mobsters, blackmail, and her own organization's Internal Affairs department. Genevieve Cogman's fourth Invisible Library novel maintains the series' signature wit.

Kristin Atherton returns as narrator with an energy that matches the Prohibition setting's particular brand of glamorous danger, bringing a brisk, clever delivery to Irene's adaptability under pressure. Atherton has narrated the entire series and her command of the recurring characters deepens with each installment, particularly Irene's dry humor and Kai's more formal bearing. The alternate 1920s backdrop gives this entry a distinctive atmosphere within the series.
