Young witch Tiffany Aching is still learning her craft under the fearsome Miss Treason when she makes a reckless, impulsive decision: she joins the Dark Dance, the ancient ritual that turns the world from summer to winter. In doing so, she catches the eye of the Wintersmith, a primal elemental force that has never encountered a human girl before and doesn't quite know what to do with the feeling. What follows is a battle between a determined thirteen-year-old and the spirit of winter itself, with the fate of the seasons hanging in the balance.

Stephen Briggs brings decades of Discworld experience to this recording, voicing the full cast with precision and warmth. His Nac Mac Feegle are particular highlights, each tiny warrior distinct and riotously alive. Pratchett's layered prose rewards the audio format well, with Briggs finding the humor without undercutting the genuine stakes. At just over eight hours, the pacing is brisk but never rushed, making this one of the more satisfying entries in the series to experience by ear.
